A growth corridor with a county seat in the middle

Richmond and Rosenberg sit together on US-59 southwest of Sugar Land, where Fort Bend County is still turning fields into subdivisions. Richmond is the county seat, with the courthouse, the Justice Center and OakBend Medical Center near the Brazos River. Rosenberg is the rail town next door, with a historic downtown on the Union Pacific line, the county fairgrounds on Highway 36 and the Brazos Town Center retail at FM 762. Around and between them, the master-planned communities along the Grand Parkway and the freeway keep adding sections. Our officers reach the whole corridor from the Sugar Creek office by US-59, and the newer communities north of the freeway by the Grand Parkway.

Construction sets the schedule here

The request we plan for most in this corridor is site security for subdivisions in progress. A subdivision under construction has model homes with furniture and appliances, framed houses with copper and wire, condensers waiting on pads, and lumber packages dropped on open lots ahead of Monday’s crews. The sites are fenced loosely if at all, and they empty on Friday afternoon. The post is usually a vehicle patrol through the active sections on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with a checkpoint at each street, or a static officer at the single construction entrance where the developer has one. School sites for Lamar CISD, new fire stations and retail pads near the interchanges follow the same pattern with tighter fencing. Hot-work fire watch is available when roofing and welding crews arrive on the commercial jobs.

Retail, county buildings and the hospital

Brazos Town Center and the freeway frontage in Rosenberg carry the big-box stores and restaurants for this end of the county, and the requests are evening lot presence, loss prevention support inside the larger stores and dock coverage on delivery nights. Richmond’s county buildings and the law offices around the courthouse square are daytime lobby and parking posts. OakBend Medical Center and the medical offices around it ask for after-hours lobby and garage coverage. Apartment communities with Richmond addresses along the Grand Parkway and Highway 6 use courtesy patrol and pool posts through the summer.

Fall means the fair

The Fort Bend County Fair on Highway 36 fills Rosenberg for a stretch of late September and October, with rodeo nights, livestock barns, carnival rides and parking that spills into the neighboring streets. Vendor trailers, equipment and merchandise sit overnight on the grounds and on nearby properties for the length of the fair, and the businesses along Highway 36 and the freeway see traffic they do not see the rest of the year. Event posts, lot coverage and overnight equipment watch are scheduled per date. Spring brings the same pattern in smaller form for the festival weekends in the two downtowns.
