Guard tour system: Definition and What It Means for Your Property

Proof that the round happened

A daily report says the officer walked the north lot at 2:10 a.m. A guard tour record says the tag on the north lot light pole was scanned at 2:11:40. The second is harder to argue with, which is the point. Tags are fixed at the places the client cares about: the pool gate, the far stairwell, the dumpster enclosure, the roof door, the dock. The officer scans each one on each round, the system logs the time, and a missed or late checkpoint shows up in the morning as a gap in the record rather than as a complaint three weeks later.

What it does not prove

A scan proves the officer was at the tag. It does not prove the officer looked at anything. That is why Price Protection treats the tour record as one input to the daily performance review rather than the whole of it: the supervisor reads the tour log alongside the daily activity report and the incident reports, and a round with every checkpoint scanned and nothing observed on a property that had three maintenance issues waiting to be found gets a conversation, not a pass.

Using it on your property

Where a client has a tour system, our officers use it and the client sees the record. Where a client does not, we can set checkpoints up as part of the post orders, choosing the points from the walk-through rather than from a diagram, so the tags sit where problems actually occur.
