Most of what Price Protection does every night is unarmed work, and non-commissioned officers do it. A courtesy officer walking a garden apartment community in Katy. A gate officer on a construction site in the Energy Corridor signing in the concrete trucks at five in the morning. A lobby officer in a Galleria office tower. A fire watch officer walking a Downtown building every hour while the sprinkler system is down. An event officer at a church’s Sunday services in Missouri City. The posts differ; the standard does not.

The standard is observe-and-report done well. The officer is visible and approachable, walks the route and checks the checkpoints on time, talks to residents and visitors early and courteously, handles what the post orders cover, calls the police for what they do not, and writes it down as it happens. The daily report that goes to the client the next morning is built from those entries.

Requirements

A current Texas DPS Level II non-commissioned registration, or the willingness to earn it: the 30-hour course and a Department of Public Safety fingerprint background check. The company’s own background check and a drug test. A valid driver’s license or occupational license and reliable transportation, because posts are spread across a large region. A working smartphone that supports the company’s reporting system. Your own duty belt. Good work ethic, which in this job means showing up on time, every time, and walking the whole route at hour seven the way you walked it at hour one.

Training and the daily review

Every officer is trained in the company’s security protocols, customer service, incident reporting, first aid and fire safety, and officers assigned to fire watch are trained in rounds, logs and alarm procedures. Before working any property, the officer reads and signs its post orders. Then the daily review begins: a supervisor reads every shift report against the post orders and follows up the next day. That is how a new officer learns the job quickly, and how a good one gets noticed for supervisory work.
